Recently I was speaking with my Team about mindset. It was in the context of helping them set up for a successful new year, and for their future going forward.
As I was preparing what I was going to talk about I wanted to come up with just a few simple high-level concepts that would be easy to remember but also be impactful, and I developed what I call The 3 A’s of Mindset.
While each of the concepts starts with the letter A, you should put the word “be” in front of each one as you put these into practice.
What are 3 A’s of Mindset?
Be Amazing
Be Audacious
Be Accountable
This post will be about the first one, Amazing, and will be following up with posts will be about being Audacious and Accountable
Amazing
Be Amazing for yourself and others.
Many of us desire / dream for an “amazing” life, and that can mean different things to different people: professional, personal, family, health, financial, and so on.
What I’m talking about here with being Amazing is more of a state of being.
Instead of focusing on a particular goal or even material things (which won’t make you feel amazing long-term by the way), think about how you want to feel a year from now, two years from now, five years, and so on.
Feeling Amazing starts with implementing practices to be Amazing, and I want to look at this concept in two ways:
- Being Amazing to yourself
- Being Amazing for others
Be Amazing to yourself
I believe this first one is easier to understand, but for some might be challenging to put into practice.
Being Amazing to yourself doesn’t mean go out and buy a bunch of stuff, nor does it necessarily mean the usual things such as I’m going to start exercising, I’m going to eat better, I’m going to read more, etc.
I’m talking about having a mindset of Incremental Improvement. What are one or two things you can start doing this week or month to help you get to where you want to be?
- Getting up a little earlier?
- More water?
- Less Facebook and more real books?
- Taking the stairs?
Whatever it is that you identify if you can implement just one new habit per week or even per month, it will start to become your normal. It’s incremental changes like these that will have you starting to notice improvements in other areas of your life as well.
Be Amazing for Others
I think this is the secret weapon for Amazing.
When I was speaking with my Team recently about the 3 A’s we spent a few minutes talking about the concept of being Amazing for others and I asked them “Who can you be amazing for?”
- Clients
- Co-workers
- Family & Friends
- Anyone you encounter
Think about this for a moment: How do you feel after you have helped someone?
Whether it’s a complete stranger or someone you already know, think about how you felt after you recently helped them. Take it a step further and think about how you felt when that help you provided was unexpected.
Helping others and having a mindset of helping others can have a profound impact on your day. If you’re in sales, you Clients and your prospects will hear it in your voice or see it in your demeanor and they will notice a difference.
The secret weapon here is that when you focus on being Amazing for others, it will have a profound impact on how you feel and you will find that this will affect other areas of your life.
What are some ways you can be Amazing for others?
