The end of any year brings a time of reflection for many, and a process of setting goals and priorities for the new year. 2020 was certainly a year filled with challenges for many, but it also presented opportunities for folks to consider what is important in life, re-examine priorities, and for many re-inventing themselves.
As we start the new year there will be many people telling themselves “This will be my best year ever!” That’s a great mantra to have; there are plenty of articles and ideas out there around that topic, and even a great book that I recommend titled Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt (whom I’m a big fan of).
I have become more intentional in the words I use, and a while ago I stopped telling myself that this was going to be my best year ever and replaced it with “This is going to be my best year so far.”
For me, the message I am sending to myself is this: While this year can be the best one I have had in my life to date, it subtly reminds me that I will end the year better than how I started, and I am building momentum for subsequent great years ahead. Said another way, this coming year is going to be a great foundational component of what’s yet to come.
Progress and personal development is all about momentum, and I’ll touch on that concept in an upcoming post.
I want each of you to have an incredible year where you achieve your goals whether they be personal or professional, but also to be mindful of the words and phrases that you use and understand how powerful they can be (for you or against you).
